One step Sparring (Ilbo Matsoki)One step sparring is the most realistic form of set sparring there is, simply because the defender cannot foresee the attack coming. Therefore, the defender must have very fast reflexes, in order to defend and defeat the opponent. This form of sparring is completely different to free sparring, i.e. take down techniques, arm locks, joint breaking techniques etc., are practiced. The defender is expected to be able to perform there counter attacks on both left and right sides. Here are few very basic sequences all of which are a variation on the same theme. The defences are against a middle section obverse punch with the right hand for explanation purposes. No.1 Step back left leg in L stance. Perform a middle section inward moving block . Back fist strike to the temple with the right hand, low section hammer fist to groin (with same hand), reverse punch to solar plexus and Kihap, back to guarding block. No.2 Step back left leg in L stance. Perform a middle section inward moving block with right hand. Knife hand strike to neck (or Jaw). Slide in back elbow strike (right hand) in L stance to solar plexus, step back, back fist to temple, reverse punch to solar plexus and Kihap, back to guarding block. No.3 Step back left leg in L stance. Perform a middle section inward moving block with right hand. Slide in back elbow strike (right hand) to solar plexus facing away in right L stance (as in No.2 two step sparring). Step away, Foot to foot, Slide in back elbow strike (left hand) to solar plexus facing away in left L stance. Back fist strike to temple with left hand. Reverse punch (right hand) to solar plexus, back to guard.
